Jharkhand elections: Hemant Soren will take oath as Jharkhand CM on November 28
NEW DELHI:YMM Chief Hemant Soren on Sunday resigned from the current government to stake claim to form the next one. After meeting the governor, Soren announced that the swearing-in ceremony for the chief minister and other ministers is scheduled for November 28.
This development followed the unanimous election of Hemant Soren as party leader in the legislature by the leaders of the INDIA bloc in the state.
“Today we have started the procedure to form the (INDIA) alliance government and in that series we have filed a claim to form a government before the Governor. I also offered him my resignation. The Congress and RJD in charge were also present here. The oath ceremony will take place on November 28,” he said.
He also announced that he would remain as acting prime minister until the swearing-in on November 28.
Hemant Soren’s JMM-led alliance won a decisive victory in Jharkhand, winning 56 of the 81 seats in the assembly and earning a second consecutive term in power. This victory defied few exit polls, which had predicted a BJP-led NDA triumph.
The alliance, comprising the JMM, Congress, RJD and Left parties, outperformed the BJP, which won only 21 seats, besides three seats from its allies. With a majority of 41, this is the first time that a sitting government has been re-elected in Jharkhand since the state was created on November 15, 2000.
Soren will take oath as the fourteenth chief minister of Jharkhand.
