Violence in Manipur: Autopsy report reveals extensive injuries in three deaths in Jiribam | India News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: Extensive injuries were found in three of the six victims killed in Manipur’s Jiribam district, officials confirmed on Sunday. Forensic examination revealed multiple gunshot wounds and severe lacerations to their bodies. The victims were found dead after a collision between security forces and suspected Kuki militants.
The autopsy report of three-year-old Chingkheinganba Singh showed a gunshot wound to the skull and a missing right eye. The report also noted lacerations, fractures to the chest and lacerations to the forearm and other body parts.
“The child’s body was in a ‘state of decomposition’,” revealed the report signed on November 17, PTI reported.
His mother, L Heitonbi Devi, 25, suffered “three gunshot wounds to the chest and one to the buttock,” according to the report. Y Rani Devi (60), the child’s grandmother, suffered five gunshot wounds: one in the skull, two in the chest, one in the abdomen and one in an arm. The reports also revealed deep cuts on both women’s bodies.
The exact cause of death of all three victims is pending further analysis. The chemical analysis report of the viscera is expected from the Directorate of Forensic Sciences, Guwahati.
Post-mortem examinations were conducted at Silchar Medical College Hospital (SMCH) in Cachar district of Assam. Reports for another woman and two children are still pending.
The six deceased, belonging to the Meitei communitywent missing from a relief camp in Jiribam after a gun battle on November 11. The gun battle between security forces and suspected Kuki-Zo militants resulted in the deaths of ten insurgents. The bodies of the six victims were recovered from the Jiri River in Jiribam district and the Barak River in Assam’s Cachar in the following days. The discovery of the bodies sparked major protests in the Imphal Valley.
