'Mann Ki Baat' radio broadcast: Partition's oral history project gets praise from PM Modi
NEW DELHI: Drawing on his recent visit to Guyana where he witnessed a ‘mini India’ that made a difference, Prime Minister Modi Sunday urged people to look out for and share stories of how Indian immigrants have made their mark in various countries and kept the Indian heritage alive.
In the 116th episode of his monthly radio broadcast ‘Mann Ki Baat’, the Prime Minister also asked people to share these stories with him either on the NaMo app or on MyGov with the hashtag ‘IndianDiasporaStories’. ‘Mini India’ also lives in Guyana About 180 years ago, people from India were brought to Guyana to work in the fields and for other tasks. Today, people of Indian descent living in Guyana are leading the country in every field… be it politics, business, education or culture. The President of Guyana, Dr. Irfaan Ali, is also of Indian descent and is proud of his Indian heritage,” the Prime Minister said.
The Prime Minister also spoke about the ‘Oral History Project’ being conducted in India, where history buffs are collecting the experiences of victims of the Partition period. “Now very few people in the country have witnessed the horrors of Partition. In such a situation, this effort has become even more important,” he said.
