NEW DELHI: Amid demands from the Opposition to discuss the bribery allegations against the Adani Group, the government on Sunday said the business advisory committees of both Houses will decide on matters to be discussed and urged all parties to to ensure smooth functioning of Parliament.
The session, which begins on Monday, is all set to witness disruptions and adjournments with the government planning to introduce the contentious Waqf Bill and the Opposition demanding a debate on Manipur violence and the Adani issue.
On demand to raise the Adani issue, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju told reporters after an all-party meeting that the respective business advisory committees of the two Houses will decide on matters to be discussed with the consent of Lok Sabha speaker and Rajya Sabha Chairman. in the winter session.
Congress members raised the bribery allegations against the Adani Group and the situation in Manipur. Congress MP Pramod Tiwari said his party wanted the Adani issue to be taken up first in Parliament during its meeting on Monday. “It is a serious issue involving the country’s economic and security interests as the company has reportedly paid over Rs 2,300 crore to politicians and bureaucrats to get favorable deals for its solar projects,” he said.

His colleague Gaurav Gogoi said the party also wanted a discussion on the ethnic conflicts in Manipur. He said while the CM of Jharkhand was arrested, the government still had confidence in the CM of Manipur despite bouts of ethnic violence. The party also sought a discussion on rising pollution in North India and train accidents.
BJP president JP Nadda and Congress MP Jairam Ramesh were among those who attended the meeting. The winter session ends on December 20.
The government has listed 16 bills, including the Waqf (Amendment) Act, for consideration during the session. The panel examining the Waqf law has been directed to submit its report on the last day of the first week of the winter session. Opposition members on the panel have sought a postponement for the submission of the report.
