My Shelfy Smart Fridge appliance surprised me in a good way, and it’s now 35% off
If you thought refrigerating your food based on food safety rules or package instructions was enough to keep it fresh, there are gadgets and gizmos that prove you wrong. Enter, the Shelfy smart refrigerator appliance that brand Vitesy says extends food freshness for up to 12 days while removing bad food odors. Early Black Friday deals will get you up to 35% off, making it just $117, and we got to test it out for ourselves.
While testing the device, I was pleasantly surprised by its performance, but one thing struck me in particular: the Vitesy app that links with Shelfy.

The Vitesy Hub app helps the Shelfy shine
When you use Shelfy, it sits in your refrigerator and is relatively compact: 6.51 inches long, 10.5 inches wide, and 6.5 inches in diameter, and it works to extend freshness via a washable photocatalytic filter. However, for the device to do its job, it must be close to your fresh produce. So if you keep your fruits and veggies in a drawer in your refrigerator, your Shelfy needs to be in that drawer too in order to work as intended. Or if you typically leave your kale and spinach in the bag or plastic container you purchased them in, you should remove them from the container and store them in your refrigerator and near the Shelfy.

When I tested the Shelfy it was a little heavier than I thought, and because I have a smaller refrigerator it takes up a bit of the precious space, but I’ve found that I prefer to use it in my crisper drawer because that that’s how it is. where my carrots, apples, lemons and veggies usually are. Shelfy operates in three modes: Eco, Crisper and Performance, and can last up to three weeks in Eco mode. I use it in sharpen mode as that is recommended if kept in a drawer. The device is rechargeable with an included USB cable. As it does its work, it generates a noise of 30 decibels, which to me sounds like the smallest fan in the world. When I open my refrigerator, I usually don’t hear it in the drawer.
While I can’t say for sure if it extends the freshness of my produce, as I tend to use it quite quickly, I’m sure it hasn’t reduced the shelf life in any way. And the Shelfy seems to eliminate odors in the refrigerator, which is a big plus if you store products without packaging or Tupperware. But my personal favorite part is that the device connects to a Vitesy Hub app that gives you more information about your refrigerator, such as how often your refrigerator has been opened and for how long, the temperature of your refrigerator, and how many days until the refrigerator filter Shelfy needs to be washed. There is also a food storage expert section that will tell you how to best store food in your refrigerator for optimal freshness. For example, if you type “cilantro” into the search bar, you’ll see seasonality and storage tips. “Treat coriander like a bouquet of flowers! Cut the stems, place them in a glass of water, cover the leaves with a loose plastic bag and put them in the refrigerator,” the storage tip reads. “This method keeps coriander alive and fresh for longer.”

Of course, you can find this information elsewhere online, but personally I love having everything in one place and using this app almost feels like I now have a smart refrigerator. Additionally, there is a refrigerator cleaning section where you can set alerts to remind you when it’s time to clean your refrigerator (mine is currently set to remind me every 120 days). Moreover, it even provides you with a seven-step section on how to properly keep your refrigerator tidy. The Shelfy is my favorite device and app combination that helps me take care of my refrigerator and everything in it.
Why the Shelfy is a great gift
Shelfy is great for anyone who wants to help reduce food waste, freshen the air in the refrigerator, or learn more about storing your food properly. While Shelfy normally costs $180, this has dropped to $117 during early Black Friday deals, a savings of $63.
