Up bypoll: Make an effort to disrupt debate on poll rigging, says Samajwadi Party
Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav accused the BJP of orchestrating the violence in Sambhal following a mosque survey to divert attention from the allegedly rampant malpractices in the bypolls, in which the BJP won seven of the nine seats won. Akhilesh, whose party lost two of the four bastions at stake, said the clash was triggered to disrupt a meeting called to discuss malpractices in Kundarki.
He said: “I don’t want to go into the technical details of the issue, but the other side in the dispute was not allowed to be heard. Was this done deliberately to inflame tempers and disrupt the debate on poll rigging?”
Union Minister Giriraj Singh blamed the violence on those who “do not trust the democratic institutions and laws of the country”. Singh accused Congress leader Rahul Gandhi of “supporting such elements and their subversive acts”.
