Speeding car crashes on Western Express Highway, killing 2 teens
Two teenagers were killed after a car carrying four friends crashed into a road divider Western Express Highway at Vile Parle around 4:30 am on Saturday. The two colleagues – Sartak Kaushik and Jalaj Dhir, both 18 – were sitting in the back while they were traveling from Bandra to Goregaon. The car was traveling “120 to 150 km/h when it went out of control,” police said.
Sahil Menda was driving and Jedan Jimmy, both also 18, sat next to him. The arrested Menda attributed the cause of the accident to a “moment of indecision – whether to continue on the highway or divert to the service road at Vile Parle,” a police officer said.
Menda has claimed that he had not consumed alcohol. “His blood sample has been collected to verify his claim,” an officer said. Earlier on Saturday, the friends were taken to the Andheri house of a fifth friend in an autorickshaw.
Jimmy told police: “…We had some drinks and food.” Menda was with them, then left for home and later rejoined them. After midnight they decided to go for a ride. Around 3.30 am, they got into Menda’s car and first left for Bandra, Jimmy told police.
