'Imagine if I had campaigned in your seat': Ajit Pawar's quip to cousin Rohit
NEW DELHI: Nationalist Congress Party leader Ajit Pawar on Monday took a jibe at cousin Rohit after his win for retaining his constituency from the opposition alliance as part of the NCP-Sharad Pawar faction.
When the uncle-nephew crossed paths during their visit to the death anniversary memorial of first Maharashtra CM YB Chavan, Ajit said, “Come, take my blessings. You barely survived (by retaining the seat). Had I held a meeting (in Karjat Jamkhed)), imagine what would have happened.” After this, Rohit touched his feet.
When asked about Ajit Pawar’s comments, Rohit acknowledged that if his uncle had held a meeting in Karjat Jamkhed, the situation would probably have been different.
“But he was busy in Baramati and could not get time to come to the constituency,” he said.
In recently concluded polls, the NCP led by Ajit Pawar won 41 seats, while the NCP (SP) led by his uncle, Sharad Pawar, posted a disappointing result with just 10 seats.
Ajit Pawar successfully retained his Baramati seat and defeated his cousin, Yugendra Pawar, the NCP (SP) candidate, by a margin of over one lakh votes.
The election results come amid the ongoing division within the NCP, which deepened last year when Ajit Pawar, along with several other legislators, joined the Eknath Shinde-BJP government, resulting in a split in the party led by his uncle was founded.
