The USA state department held therapy sessions for employees upset by newly elected President Donald Trump’s victory.
Representative Darrel IssaR-California. criticized Secretary of State Antony Blinken and raised concerns about government funding mental health guidance.
“I am concerned that the Department is targeting federal employees who have been personally devastated by the normal functioning of American democracy by providing publicly funded mental health care because Kamala Harris has not been elected President of the United States,” said Issa in a speech. letter to Blinken last week, Fox News reported.
The correspondence followed a Free Beacon article this month detailing two alleged consulting sessions at the State Department after Trump’s victory. Sources indicated that one session essentially became an emotional meeting.
In addition, agency staff received an email advertising a separate webinar focused on stress management strategies in the period following Trump’s victory.
The email said: “Change is a constant in our lives, but it can often bring stress and uncertainty. Join us for an insightful webinar as we delve into effective stress management techniques to help you navigate these challenging times. This session will provide tips and practical strategies for managing stress and maintaining your well-being.”
In his message to Blinken, Issa described these sessions as concerning, stating that nonpartisan government officials should not experience personal distress over legitimate election results.
While the Republican representative acknowledged the importance of workers’ mental health, he questioned the use of public funds for election-related counseling. He requested information about session frequency, future plans and associated costs.
Issa expressed concern that these sessions could signal possible resistance from State Department officials to implement Trump’s new departmental vision, Fox News reported.
“The very fact that the Department is hosting these sessions raises important questions about the willingness of its staff to implement the legitimate policy priorities that the American people have elected President Trump to pursue and implement,” the letter said.
“The Trump administration has a mandate for wholesale foreign policy change, and if foreign service officials cannot deliver on the preferences of the American people, they should resign and seek a political appointment in the next Democratic administration.”
