Winter Session: Those who have been rejected by people 80 to 90 times will not be allowed discussion in Parliament, says PM Modi
NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday targeted the Opposition, saying those who were repeatedly rejected by the public were trying to disrupt Parliament for political purposes.
Prime Minister Modi told reporters at the start of the winter session of Parliament: “There should be a healthy debate in Parliament but unfortunately certain individuals are trying to control Parliament for their own political gain, resorting to disruptions and chaos. “
“Those who have been rejected by the people 80 to 90 times do not allow discussions to take place in Parliament,” the Prime Minister said, adding: “Although their tactics ultimately fail, the people are closely watching their behavior and will bring justice when the time comes.”
Modi’s comments followed the victory of the BJP-led coalition in the Maharashtra Assembly elections, where it won 235 seats, while the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi won only 49 seats in the 288-member House.

Modi said he had urged opposition members to ensure smooth functioning of Parliament, and some agreed. However, he said: “Those who have been consistently rejected by the public ignore the words of their colleagues and do not respect their sentiments and those of democracy.”
Further emphasizing the importance of the winter session, Prime Minister said, “This is the winter session, hopefully the atmosphere will also be cool. This is the last session of 2024 and the country is looking forward to 2025 with enthusiasm. This session is special for many people. The most important aspect is that our Constitution is entering its 75th year – a monumental moment for our democracy. Tomorrow we will start this extraordinary event together in the new parliament building.
The winter session of Parliament started on Monday and will last until December 20.
