Winter Session of Parliament Day 1: House proceedings begin, adjourn, resume and adjourn again | India News – Times of India
Before the proceedings began in both Houses, Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his customary speech came down heavily on the Opposition, accusing them of trying to control Parliament by resorting to hooliganism.
Here are the highlights from day 1 of the winter session:
‘Those who are rejected by people who resort to hooliganism’: PM Modi
Prime Minister Narendra Modi criticized the opposition, accusing them of trying to disrupt Parliament for political purposes even after being rebuffed by the public several times. Addressing the media ahead of the commencement of proceedings in Parliament, Modi said the main aim of the opposition seemed to be to hinder the functioning of Parliament rather than contribute to its progress.
Lashing out at the opposition alliance, Modi said: “Unfortunately, some people, who have been rejected by the public, are constantly trying to control Parliament for their own political interests through people’s hooliganism. The public counts all their activities and punishes them when the time comes.”
“The most important thing is that the new MPs who come with new ideas and energy are taken over by some people. They don’t even get a chance to speak in parliament. In the democratic tradition, it is the duty of every member to prepare the next members, but those who have been rejected by the people 80 to 90 times, do not allow any discussion in parliament, do not respect the sentiments of democracy, do not understand the importance of people’s expectations,” PM Modi further said. .

He added, “The first step the government should take is to have a detailed discussion on the Adani saga, which has the potential to tarnish India’s image on the world stage.” Kharge also said the investments of millions of private investors are at risk.
The opposition wants extension of JPC’s tenure over the Waqf Bill
Opposition party members of the Joint Committee on Waqf Amendment Bill met Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to lodge a complaint against the panel chairman, Jagadambika Pal. They accused him of rushing the procedure on the important legislation.
In a memorandum to the Speaker, the opposition members asked for an extension of the committee’s term of office for a “reasonable time” to allow for thorough deliberation on the comprehensive bill.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, DMK MP A Raja said, “We have informed the chairman that proper processes are not being followed by the chairman. He is rushing and crashing the proceedings.”
