Sambhal violence: Autopsy points to deaths caused by country-made weapons, says DM
Violence broke out in UP’s Sambhal on Sunday, killing three people and injuring more than 30 people. Here’s everything you need to know about it, including how it came to be and what caused the chaos.
Divisional Commissioner Aunjaneya Singh on Monday said the autopsy reports of those killed in Sunday’s clashes in Sambhal suggest that the victims died from bullets fired from country-made pistols, Kanwardeep Singh and Asif Ansari reported.
“The cause of death was in most cases firearm injury possibly caused by 315 bore bullets. Such bullets are fired from country-made pistols and the bullet wounds suggest that the bullets were fired from very close range. Police personnel mainly used pellet guns to disperse the crowd. Whether these people were killed by the bullets fired by another group of protesters is a matter of investigation,” Singh said. The divisional commissioner added: “We have recovered videos showing some masked men among the rioters pelting stones. The deceased were shot at very close range while the police teams were far away from them. All these things are part of the investigation. A magisterial research has also been ordered.”
