People say I’m eager to fill the freezer with half-price meat for Christmas
A mum has hit back at nasty trolls who claim she is greedy for stocking up on half-price meat.
Tracey King, from Kent, took to social media to show off her collection of goodies, but it seems not everyone was impressed.
One wrote: ‘Obviously I’m not on the next customer… pure greed.”
Tracey responded saying, “Right. I’m not going to get into another war over meat.”
“What makes you think it’s okay to write on my video to a grown woman with four children and grandchildren and call me greedy for being prepared for Christmas?”
Speaking exclusively to Fabulous, the mum added: “I have had so many disgusting comments about buying meat for my family.”
Tracey explained that she had four children and two grandchildren to feed at Christmas, so she naturally takes advantage of deals where she can get expensive cuts of meat for less.
And she quickly hit back at nasty trolls in her comments section, saying: “Some of them are grown women with pumped lips, a fag in their mouth and alcohol in the other hand.
“I don’t drink, I don’t smoke, I spend my money on food.
“For me this is preparing for Christmas, as I have always done since I left home.”
Tracey also revealed that she always lets people know on social media when she’s spotted the deal, so others can get bargains too.
“My priority is feeding my family,” she emphasized.
‘That makes me greedy for buying meat, pathetic.’
The clip was posted to her TikTok account @traceywinter1 and went viral with over 134,000 views and 3,000 likes.
People were quick to share their thoughts in the comments, with many supporting Tracey.
One person wrote: “Well I do the same thing when something is offered, it’s called being money conscious.”
Another commented: “I don’t call it greedy, I call it organized.”
“Who wouldn’t stock up when they’re all half price?! I do the same thing every year,” wrote a third.
How to save money on your supermarket shopping
There are plenty of ways to save money at your grocery store.
You can look for yellow or red stickers on products, which indicate when they are discounted.
If the food is fresh, eat it quickly or freeze it for another time.
Making a list should also save you money because you’ll be less likely to make hasty purchases when you go to the grocery store.
Choosing your own brand can be an easy way to save hundreds of dollars a year on your food bill, too.
This means ditching the ‘best’ or ‘luxury’ products and instead opting for ‘own’ or value-for-money lines.
Many supermarkets have shaky fruit and vegetable programs where you can get cheap prices if they are misshapen or imperfect.
For example, Lidl runs its Waste Not scheme, offering 5kg boxes of fruit and vegetables for just £1.50.
If you’re on a low income and a parent, you could potentially get up to £442 a year in Healthy Start vouchers, which you can also use at the supermarket.
In addition, many municipalities offer supermarket vouchers as part of the Household Support Fund.
Meanwhile, a fourth said: “I do the same, Tracy. I like it when you tell us the meat is on offer, thank you.”
“I do this all the time, it’s smart thinking,” claimed a fifth.
Someone else added: “Honestly, if I could do this I would love the idea of it all.”
