Aldi is launching a version of Cadbury Ax Chocolate and shoppers are rushing to buy it
CADBURY has revealed it will be discontinuing its fan-favourite Festive Friens biscuits in the run-up to Christmas this year.
Chocolate lovers were naturally devastated by the news, as it joins a long list of favorites that have been axed, including the Dairy Milk Mousse Snowman.
The confectionery giant confirmed: “Festive Friends will not be returning this year.”
People quickly took to social media to express their dismay, with one writing: “I’ve just found out Cadbury’s have discontinued the festive Friends and I’m freaking out.”
Another revealed: “Cadbury no longer makes Festive Friends. Heartbroken.”
Disappointed fans don’t have to worry anymore, though, as Aldi offers an alternative to keep the Christmas spirit going.
Aldi came to the rescue after launching their own version called Merry Mates.
The milk chocolate covered cookies have many characters on the cookies including a snowman, reindeer and of course Santa Claus.
And they cost just a fraction of the price, the multipack contains seven small bags of biscuits and costs just £1.39.
They’re ideal as an on-the-go snack or to pop into your kids’ lunchbox for a cheeky sweet treat.
The launch of this delicious dupe is already causing a stir on social media, with shoppers shouting: “Festive Friends won’t be sold by Cadbury’s this year – this might be the closest!”
While another said: “Aldi’s version of Festive Friends, we had a giggle.”
We’ve seen the change or abandonment of chocolate treats hit Brits hard over the past year.
Shoppers were in an uproar in January when they noticed that Dairy Milk Marvelous Mix-ups with Oreo had been pulled from the shelves.
They were also heartbroken to discover that the Cadbury Dairy Milk 30 percent less sugar had also been axed, as had the Peanut Caramel Crisp Bars.
People were also upset after Cadbury announced they would be axing the Dairy Milk Winter Orange Crisp Chocolate Bar this festive season.
The chocolate chip cookies are available in Aldi stores now and during the holidays.
How to save money on chocolate
We all love a piece of chocolate every now and then, but you don’t have to spend a lot of money buying your favorite bar.
Consumer reporter Sam Walker reveals how to cut costs…
Go for your own brand – If you’re not too concerned about the taste and just want to satisfy your chocolate cravings, you can save by going for the supermarket’s own brand bars.
Shop around – If you spotted your favorite variety in the supermarket, be sure to check if it is cheaper elsewhere.
Websites such as Trolley.co.uk allow you to compare prices on products from all the major chains to see if you’re getting the best deal.
Look out for yellow stickers – supermarket staff place yellow, and sometimes orange and red, stickers on products to indicate that they have been reduced in size.
They usually do this if the product’s expiration date is almost expired or if the packaging is slightly damaged.
Buy larger bars – Usually, but not always, chocolate per 100 grams is cheaper the larger the bar.
So if you’re hungry, and you were going to buy a good amount of chocolate anyway, you might as well go bigger.
