He said election pledges were hampering housing provision for disadvantaged residents. The Congress MLA said the CM had secured Rs 40,000 crore for development purposes this year.
“Due to the guarantee schemes, it is difficult to provide houses to the poor. We also ask the chief minister to scrap two or three schemes, which are not necessary. Let us see what the chief minister says,” Gaviyappa said at a public meeting. in Vijayanagara.
Meanwhile, Gaviyappa’s comments drew a stern response from Deputy CM DK Shivakumar, who announced disciplinary action against him.
“This is the Congress party. I am going to send him a notice. He cannot do that. There is no question of any guarantee being taken. We have committed ourselves to the people of Karnataka. No one can raise his voice (against the guarantees),” said DK Shivakumar while addressing the media in Bengaluru.
He added that Congress MLAs should not speak against the guarantees. Shivakumar clarified that ineligible persons would not receive benefits, referring to the same approach used in the recent revision of the BPL card.
Following central government guidelines, the Karnataka government has decided to exclude government employees and income taxpayers from the list of BPL card holders.

District Congress chief Siraj Sheikh had refuted these allegations, describing Mr Gaviyappa as uninvolved and suggesting that his associates were RSS members.
