Sheena Bora case: Indrani Mukerjea moves to SC, seeks permission to travel abroad | India News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: Former media executive Indrani Mukerjea accused of murdering her daughter Sheena Borahas prompted the Supreme Court to reconsider the Bombay High Court ruling that denied her the right to travel abroad. A special court on July 19 allowed Mukerjea’s plea to travel to Spain and Britain intermittently for 10 days over the next three months.
The CBI approached the Supreme Court challenging the special court order, but the Supreme Court quashed the special court order on September 27.
Mukerjea has now moved the Supreme Court challenging the Supreme Court verdict.
In her plea, filed in the Supreme Court through lawyer Sana Raees Khan, Mukerjea said she was a British citizen, and sought permission to visit Spain and her home country for “making necessary changes and adjustments and taking care of ongoing works which cannot be handled without her personal presence”.
She argued that the activation of a digital certificate was a must for all relevant work and administration in Spain and that her physical presence was mandatory.
In its judgment, the High Court noted that Mukerjea wanted to travel abroad on the grounds that she was a British national and had to prepare documents relating to her bank account and undertake other work in Spain and the United Kingdom.
While setting aside the special court’s order, the Supreme Court said that if Mukerjea wanted to execute these works from India, the legal authorities back home would provide her with the necessary support with the help of the Spanish Embassy and the United Kingdom.
Mukerjea was arrested in August 2015 after Bora’s murder came to light. She was granted bail by the High Court in May 2022.
She has denied the allegations.
Bora (24) was allegedly strangled in a car in Mumbai in April 2012 by Mukerjea, her then driver Shyamvar Rai and former husband Sanjeev Khanna. According to the prosecutor, her body was then burned in a forest in neighboring Raigad district.
Bora was Mukerjea’s daughter from her previous relationship.
The murder came to light in 2015 when Rai reportedly revealed about it during interrogation by police after his arrest in a separate case registered under the Arms Act.
Mukerjea’s ex-husband Peter Mukerjea was also arrested for allegedly being part of the conspiracy linked to the murder investigated by the CBI.
All suspects are currently out on bail.
