An air traffic control facility that leads aircraft on Newark Liberty International Airport, suffered a short radar disruption on Friday morning, the latest technological disruption on one of the busiest airports in the country.
The Federal Aviation Administration said that the malfunction, which influenced the communication and radar displays in the facility in Philadelphia, took place just before 4 hours and lasted approximately 90 seconds.
An air traffic controller called the failure to the pilot of FedEx -flight 1989 Around that time, according to a publicly available recording of air traffic control communication with pilots.
“Fedex 1989, I’m going to handle you here, our scopes have just turned black again,” the controller said. “If you care about this, contact your airline and try to get some pressure for them to repair this stuff.”
“Sorry to hear about that,” the pilot replied.
ABC News previously reported on the malfunction.
A similar malfunction last week, on a Monday afternoon, a journey at the airport, so that controllers leave no way to communicate with pilots and stop aircraft that bump into each other. Various controllers who worked that afternoon were sadly sad and took free time, which resulted in several days of low staff in the facility, which caused widespread flight delays and cancellations.
This is a developing story. Come back for updates.
