The other two cases re-registered by the NIA relate to the November 11 attack on a CRPF post in Jakuradhor Karong and Borobekra Police Station by armed militants, following which ten militants were neutralized in retaliatory fire, and the rape and murder of November 7 from a woman. by militants.
“Acting swiftly on the directions of the MHA to bring the perpetrators to book quickly, the NIA has initiated a thorough investigation into three major cases related to the recent spate of violence in Manipur,” the anti-terror investigation agency said in a statement on Tuesday .
NIA had re-registered FIRs in all three cases on November 13 after the MHA ordered their transfer by the state police. The reasons cited include the severity of crimes committed during the escalating violence in the conflict-torn state. NIA further said that the larger objective was to expose the larger conspiracy.
“The NIA teams visited the spots on November 21-22, 2024 and started the investigation. The process of handing over case documents from local police to NIA is currently underway,” an NIA spokesperson said.
In the first case, originally registered at Borobekra Police Station in Jiribam, several houses were set on fire and two civilians were killed in Borobekra on November 11. Armed militants shot at the police station, some houses and shops in Jakuradhor Karong, and demolished some houses. shops on fire. The security forces retaliated, leading to heavy gun battle. Subsequent searches led to the recovery of two dead bodies from the burned houses. Later, unknown militants also abducted and killed six persons, including three women and three children.
NIA has re-registered this case under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Arms Act.
In the second case, a CRPF post at Jakuradhor Karong and Borobekra police stations, Jiribam, was attacked by militants. A CRPF officer suffered bullet injuries and had to be evacuated to a hospital. Retaliatory fire ensued and the search by police and armed forces personnel later recovered ten dead bodies of unidentified armed militants, weapons and ammunition.
The third case concerns the rape and murder of a woman in Jiribam by suspected militants. On November 7, 31-year-old Zosangkim, wife of Ngurthansang from Jairopokpi and mother of three children, was brutally raped and burned alive in her home by militants. The case in question was re-registered by the NIA on November 13 under the provisions of the BNS, the Arms Act and the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act.
