'Never led the crowd': Vishnu Jain claims Akhilesh and Owaisi are spreading rumors about Sambhal violence

NEW DELHI: Vishnu Shankar Jainthe applicant in the Sambhal mosque caseon Wednesday alleged that a “false allegation” was made against him that he led the crowd and raised the slogan “Jai Shree Ram”, leading to a riot after the court-ordered inquiry.
The senior lawyer accused Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Akhilesh Yadav, Asaduddin Owaisi, SP Sambhal MP, party’s media cell and Gyanvyapi Mosque secretary, committee on “spreading misinformation”.
“Akhilesh Yadav, Owaisi, Samajwadi Party MP from Sambhal, SP media cell, Gyanvyapi Mosque Committee secretary – all these people have spread misinformation that I went there with a crowd raising the slogan of Jai Shree Ram and that caused the riots there. It is a false accusation… I have gone there with the government and all concerned officials and people,” Vishan Jain told news agency ANI.
Jain alleged that slogans were raised, but only when, after the investigation, he was escorted through a Hindu-majority area, where people raised chants after seeing him.
“When the investigation ended, the police escorted me out of the so-called disputed area, where the Hindu population lives, stones were pelted and after seeing me, people raised the slogan of Jai Shree Ram. I did so.” I won’t bring up the slogan. The threats I receive, these five people are responsible for it…,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Uttar Pradesh Police has released photos of the suspects in the stone-pelting incident in Sambhal.

An FIR filed by the police has named Sambhal MP of Samajwadi Party Zia-ur-Rahman Barq and MLA Iqbal Mahmood’s son Sohail Mahmood for inciting violence in the city on Sunday.
The clashes, which broke out during a court-ordered investigation by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) at the Mughal era Jama Masjidwhich left five dead and many – including twenty police personnel – injured.
The FIR also accuses lawyer Zafar Ali, part of the mosque’s management committee, of leaking information about the second investigation to the accused lawmakers, which allegedly contributed to their preparations for resistance.
