After ‘Maha’ bashing, Sena (UBT) leader hints at party going solo in future polls | India News – Times of India
“There is a feeling among a large part of the party to participate independently in the elections. It does not matter whether Shiv Sena (UBT) gets power or not. The party was not born to seize power. It is a party that works based on an ideology. ” Danve, the Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council, told the new agency PTI.
Danve also claimed that even Congress party workers would want to fight the elections independently in the near future.
The MVA, comprising the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena (UBT), Sharad Pawar’s NCP (SP) and the Congress, suffered a humiliating defeat as it won only 46 of the 288 seats in the assembly.
Maharashtra Congress chief Nana Patole reacted subdued to Danve’s statement and said the Sena (UBT) leader “has the right to express his own views”.
Senior Congress leader Vijay Wadettiwar, who served as Leader of Opposition in the state Assembly, said like Sena (UBT) leaders, those in the Congress also wanted to fight the elections alone.
“But that cannot be the party’s decision. We are analyzing the result and the causes of our defeat. Even during the peak of the Modi wave, we have outperformed the current outcome and that is why we have doubts about EVMs,” he told news agency PTI.
Wadettiwar further said, “Not just political parties, even the common public has doubts (about EVMs)…So the judiciary should take note of it.”
Meanwhile, Congress leader Amit Deshmukh said all MVA allies are analyzing what went wrong and hence it is not right to comment in advance.
