Violence in Manipur: 94 checkpoints installed, search operations in Jiribam | India News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: Manipur Police has installed 94 checkpoints and conducted search operations to tackle the recent violence in Jiribam, the state police said on Thursday.
“Search operations and area domination were carried out by security forces in the fringe and vulnerable areas of hill and valley districts. Movement of 262 and 336 vehicles carrying essential items along NH-37 and NH-2 has been arranged. Stringent security measures are being taken up at all vulnerable locations and a security convoy is being deployed on sensitive stretches to ensure free and safe movement of the vehicles,” Manipur Police said in a post on
“A total of 94 Nakas/Checkpoints were installed in various districts of Manipur, both on the hill and in the valley, and no one was apprehended by the police in connection with offenses in various districts of the state,” it added.

Massive combing operation launched

This comes after CM N Biren Singh said that both the central and state governments are implementing several measures to tackle the recent violence in Jiribam.
“On November 18, the NDA Legislative Forum in Manipur took a decision and sent it to the Government of India for implementation. There are 3-4 points including the removal of AFSPA from the 6 new police stations (PS areas) and the case related to the Jiribam gruesome murder cases which will be handed over to the NIA, and the massive combing operations against these terrorists will be continued government,” the CM had said.

Mobile internet suspension extended until November 29

The Manipur government has announced the extension of mobile internet suspension for another two days in nine districts, which will now last till November 29.
“The state government, after evaluating the prevailing law and order situation, has decided to continue the suspension of mobile internet and mobile data services, including VSATs and VPN, in the territorial jurisdiction of Imphal West, Imphal East, Kakching, Bishnupur, Thoubal , Churachandpur, Kangpokpi, Pherzawl and Jiribam of Manipur for two more days, in public interest,” the order said.

Missing man not yet found, protesters give 3 days

The Joint Action Committee (JAC), formed following the disappearance of a 56-year-old man, held a sit-in protest in Imphal West district on Wednesday.
“We demand that Kamalbabu be handed over to us within three days from Wednesday, otherwise there will be intense unrest,” said JAC chairman Ratan Kumar Singh.
Kamalbabu went missing on Monday while he was on his way to the Leimakhong army camp.
The NIA took responsibility for three major cases related to the Jiribam violence and issued a press release confirming his involvement in the investigations.
