A mother wrongly persuaded to break down her healthy baby daughter after doctors wrongly told her that the baby got a fatal form of dwarf -like dwarf – five years later.

Kay Young made the painful decision to break down her third child Keira after the incorrect medical advice.

A 20 -week scan in the Blackpool Victoria Hospital during the third pregnancy identified serious problems with Kay's daughter, including abbreviated thigh bones.

Follow -Up tests in Blackpool also revealed short -ranging upper arms with a reference made for further research in the Saint Mary's Hospital in Manchester.

An ultrasound led to medical advice that Kay's unborn daughter Keira suffered from a fatal form of dwarf -like with advice that she should be terminated.

Hartbroken, the mother made the painful decision to break down her third child – but later learned that her daughter did not have the condition after a post Mortem examination in the same hospital.

Mrs. Young, who has since gave birth to a fourth child, now two, pronounced for the first time on the fifth anniversary of the death of Keira-as a five-digit settlement had agreed with the trust that Runde St Mary's.

Mrs. Young, now 29, said that she only agreed with the abortion out of concern for her unborn daughter.

She said: 'The thought of her who suffers pain and only survived for a short period after birth was too much to wear. We first had to place Keira and believed that an abortion was the right decision for her. '

She added: 'I knew nothing was wrong with Keira. As a mother you just know. Her movements were strong, but I trusted the advice I received.

Remembering the devastating impact of the termination – which led her to wore her child in her womb for three days before the child was born to death – said Mrs. Young: “She died after the hospital had administered a needle. I asked if I could see a hole in her chest when she was born and received reassurance that I could see nothing.

'I had to continue pregnancy for three days, knowing that we had killed her. When she was born, I saw a hole in her chest where the needle that killed her was inserted.

'My partner and I couldn't handle it when we found out that Keira had no fatal form of dwarf -like after the post -mortgage of the hospital.

'We left the area for a while because we couldn't handle it. Our relationship broke. It was too much to wear, knowing that we made the wrong decision and that she would still have to live today. I want Keira to be reminded and that the hospital acknowledges what they did. '

Mrs. Young said she desperately wants her daughter to be remembered on the fifth anniversary of her death in the Saint Mary's Hospital in Manchester on February 19, 2020.

Her lawyer Diane Rostron said: 'Kay and her partner were advised that if they progressed with pregnancy, Keira would probably die as a result of a fatal form of dwarf gram in a few days or weeks after birth.

'The hospital has not considered other less devastating diagnosis, despite Kay's medical history with two older children who have a non-fatal disorder, which means that they are small for their age.

“Kay believed that her daughter was fine because she kept feeling strong movements. The thought of giving birth to Keira and seeing her how she ran a painful death, or weeks later, led my client to make the very difficult decision to continue with an abortion.

'Keira was delivered stillborn three days after her death. Kay suffered the important trauma to wear her dead daughter for three days and then hold her fragile baby, with a weight of less than a small bag of sugar, in her arms and believed that she had made the right decision to prevent unnecessary suffering .

'Learning shortly thereafter, Keira had no deadly form of dwarf gram, and remains devastating for Kay and her now ex-partner. The hospital did not consider an alternative diagnosis, which made a deadly error that we believe caused the avoidable death of Keira. '

Kay, whose older children are 8 and 9 years old, and her partner later had a healthy daughter three years after the death of Keira. She is now two.

A spokesperson for Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust, who has resolved the claim but denies liability, said: 'We want to express our sincere compassion to Kay Young and her family. The circumstances of the treatment to Kay Young have been investigated in detail.

'The hospital has thought about all aspects of the care provided, and we believe that lessons have been drawn from this case.

'We hope that the agreed scheme will help her and her family to continue this and wish them the very best for the future. Our door always remains open if they want to discuss further questions with us. '
