‘Lady SPG’: Photo of female officer escorting PM Modi goes viral | India News – Times of India
The image, which Kangana described as ‘Lady SPG’, has gone viral and sparked discussions about the empowerment of women and their increasing representation in the elite security forces.
Although social media users have speculated that the woman in the photo could possibly be a member of the Special protection group (SPG), the elite force charged with the prime minister’s security, its exact role and service branch remain secret.
Founded in 1985, the SPG is known for providing close protection to the prime minister, former prime ministers and their immediate family members. The officers are known for their leadership, professionalism and advanced training in security protocols, often working with the Intelligence Bureau (IB) and state police to ensure seamless security arrangements.
In recent years, female officers have taken on leadership roles in units such as air defense, signals, ordnance, intelligence, engineering and service corps, reflecting a broader push for gender inclusivity in defense services.
