I was walking my dogs when my neighbor shamed me online for my ‘honest mistake’: now I’m afraid to walk in my own suburb

A woman says she is now ‘scared’ to walk in her own suburb after a neighbor posted CCTV footage of her throwing dog poop into his bin.

The footage, captured on a security camera in Khandallah, Wellington, showed the woman walking her dogs just after 9.30am on Wednesday.

She was seen placing a bag of dog poop into a yellow trash can before continuing her walk.

The furious homeowner shared the footage on YouTube and a local Facebook group, criticizing her actions.

“Very uncool to throw your doggy bags in the yellow trash can,” the message read.

‘I’ve seen it happen a few times now. Hardworking recycling workers have to deal with it and it contaminates collections.

‘It’s great that you pick up the dog poop, but don’t be lazy: take it home or find a good rubbish bin.’

The dog owner told Daily Mail Australia she deeply regrets her mistake but wishes the homeowner had confronted her directly instead of publicly shaming her on Facebook.

She said that after the post she is “afraid to go for a walk” in her own neighborhood and that she “sincerely regrets” the act

The post has sparked significant backlash from locals after being viewed more than 10,000 times. The woman now claims she feels unsafe in her community.

She explained that in an effort to do the right thing, she put the dog poop in the nearest bin instead of leaving it on the street where it could have ended up on someone’s shoe.

She said she “had other things on her mind” and didn’t realize the bin was for recycling. She claimed it was just an honest mistake.

“I would have liked to apologize, but instead they shamed me in front of the whole neighborhood,” she said.

In the comments below the post, she was described as ‘lazy’ and the kind of owner who ‘doesn’t pay attention to their dogs and lets them fuck wherever they want’.

However, other locals came to her aid.

‘I really hate people who post videos of other people. You have no idea the impact it can have on them.

“Be kind and don’t judge, it’s not the end of the world, you know.”

The dog walker said the comments under the post “got completely out of hand” because of an action she “sincerely regrets.”

“The harassment I received after it was shared online was shocking,” she said.

‘And now I no longer dare to go for a walk in my own neighborhood.’

The woman said a “Karen-like” culture has taken over the community, with people choosing to shame others on Facebook rather than address issues head-on.

‘These kinds of grown men need to grow up. Instead of acting like the neighborhood police and shaming me on Facebook, they should have confronted me directly because we live in the neighborhood. They know who I am, because I walk that route every day.’

The woman said she plans to apologize to him personally.

Daily Mail Australia contacted the neighbor who posted the video for comment.
