A shocking video clip has revealed the devastating subtle sign that a young man had a motor neuron disease in just 32 years old.

Eric Brunner, from Philadelphia in the US, ran to three miles a day at the start of his symptoms in 2020.

But only a few months later, the previously healthy artist, now 38, was diagnosed with amyotrophe lateral sclerosis (ALS) – the most common form of motor neuron disease.

The muscle waste condition is incurable and gradually prevents patients moving, talking and even eating.

“I am passionate about teaching others about the nuances of this disease and giving people insight into what it looks like, to my best ability.”

When is a rare condition that gradually damages parts of the nervous system.

Together with muscles, cramps and muscle weakness belong to the early signs of the condition, along with unclear speech and weight loss.

There is no remedy, but doctors can offer treatments to reduce the impact it has on a person’s life.

Eric was only diagnosed with the condition after he had sought medical help for the weakness in his hands and loss of coordination.

On his own Instagram account, Eric -an accomplished painter who now relies on a Power wheelchair to make ends meet -images of the artworks he makes with the help of digital sculpting, EYE tracking technology and 3D printing.

In one message he said: ‘Some days are more difficult than others. Something like a cold chest, as simple as those who are not affected, you can really bring it down, remind you that your physical strength leaves you little by little.

‘Something like coughing that stubborn tickel in your throat, so simple in theory yet becomes increasingly difficult.

‘Seeing friends who fight the same fight without catching breaks just hit after the hit.

“Sometimes it feels like it can break you, but that is what my goal strengthens to fight, for all of us as if.”

About 5,000 adults in the UK have ALS and there is one in 300 risk to develop the condition in the course of a person’s life.

The life expectancy for about half of those with the condition is between only two and five years from the start of the symptoms. But these can deteriorate quickly.

Some people may live up to 10 years, and, in rarer circumstances, even longer.

The exact cause is largely unknown, but the current research indicates a complex interplay of genetic, environmental and possible lifestyle factors – and it often becomes fit and healthy people.

Last year Leeds Rhinos star Rob Burrow died, 41, after a battle of four and a half years with the condition.

Locked syndrome (LIS) is a rare neurological condition that can also occur in some progressive cases of ALS.
