Gemini AI is now here to supercharge all your Google Workspace mobile apps
- Workspace users can now use Google’s brand new Gemini AI app
- You can use the mobile phone camera to upload photos directly to the chatbot
- The app still lacks some functionalities, such as Workspace extensions
Google is keen to get its generative AI features to more devices announced it brings the Gemini AI app to Android and iOS devices for Google Workspace users, meaning employees can now interact with the service from their mobile devices.
In addition to the main chatbot functionalities, Google Workspace users can also directly use the camera on the device to use images as input.
This move is welcome news for business and education customers, who have largely relied on PC-based applications until now.
Google AI goes mobile
Google’s AI has been slowly making its way into the mobile experience for months, but the most significant productivity improvements have been most prominent on the desktop, especially for Workspace customers.
The app lets users do all the usual things like create presentation-ready images and summarize information that can then be used in other Workspace apps like Docs, Slides, and Gmail.
Google confirmed: “All of this comes with the enterprise data protection that Google Workspace customers have come to expect.”
However, some features available to Workspace users on the web version of Gemini are not yet supported in the mobile app. Missing features include extensions for the Workspace apps, file uploads, and gems.
There’s also a lack of continuity between services across platforms: the Android version doesn’t support work profiles, and the iOS app doesn’t integrate with the Google app for Workspace account verification.
However, all these improvements can come with time. What’s important now is that business and education account holders can now access more of Gemini’s features from their mobile, where many of us spend most of our time.
It is available to users of Business Starter/Standard/Plus, Enterprise Starter/Standard/Plus, Frontline Starter/Standard, Essentials, Enterprise Essentials, Enterprise Essentials Plus, Google Workspace for Nonprofits, and Education Fundamentals/Standard/Plus with the Gemini Business/ Enterprise/Education/Education Premium add-ons.
