Gujarat ATS arrests man for sharing coast guard information with Pakistan
AHMEDABAD: Gujarat Anti Terrorist Squad (ATS) on Friday arrested a worker for allegedly sharing sensitive information about the movements of Indian Coast Guard (ICG) ships with a Pakistani agent. The accused Dipesh Gohel is a welder-cum-laborer at Okha jetty in coastal Devbhumi Dwarka district. For a daily payment of Rs 200, he allegedly passed on confidential information about ICG ships arriving at the jetty to a Pak woman, SP (ATS) K Siddharth said, adding that Gohel was charged under BNS Sections 61 and 147 for criminal conspiracy and waging war against the government.
ATS kept a close eye on Gohel after he received a tip-off that he was in contact with an ISI agent or a Pakistani army officer. Technical surveillance was stepped up after the tip-off revealed that calls and messages to Gohel were coming from Pakistan, the SP said. “For the past three years, Gohel was employed by a contractor who repaired ICG vessels at the Okha jetty. He came into contact with a woman named Sahima on Facebook almost seven months ago. She then started talking to him via WhatsApp,” the SP said.
The woman, who told Gohel that she worked for the Pakistan Navy, offered to pay him Rs 200 per day if he shared the names and numbers of ICG ships and their movements, the SP said. Gohel provided the account details of three of his friends, who received a total of Rs 42,000 from the woman through UPI transactions in the last seven months. Gohel would then accept cash from them, the SP said.
