India and Britain sign major warship agreement
NEW DELHI: India and Britain have drafted a ‘Memorandum of Understanding’ (SoI) on collaboration in joint design, development and production of electric propulsion systems for Warships of the Indian Navy.
The signing of the pact in Portsmouth was part of the third joint working group meeting of the Electric Propulsion Partnership, and symbolized the commitment to indigenous development of niche technologies, the Defense Ministry said on Friday.
The SoI would serve as a broader framework for the electric propulsion of the future naval vessels. Landing platform docks (large amphibious warships), for example, to be built in an Indian shipyard, are expected to have all-electric propulsion systems, the report said.
