I opened my dream boutique but an infuriating blunder by my retail rival now threatens my livelihood

The owner of a small gift shop in San Francisco says that her company is threatened after another store with exactly the same name has been opened, which causes confusion in her clientele.

In a frustrating test, the two stores – separated by just two miles – have become entangled in an identity crisis, where even Google confuses the couple, but there seems to be no end to this business struggle.

The mix-up has made customers scratch their heads, Uber drivers who have to make unexpected detours and even drop trucks that deposit the wrong stock at the wrong location.

On the one hand, Post.Script is a lively, whimsical gift shop in the Fillmore district. The store was founded by Chandler Tang in 2019 and is a refuge of colorful glassware, quirky candles, greeting cards and home goods.

On the other hand, there is PostScript, a chic café and market in Jackson Square that serves coffee, traditional food, but unfortunately for Tang, also sells creepy comparable home goods, books and candles.

Customers also seem to be confused. Last weekend Becca Kanik and her friends were all ready to shop at Post.Script. But instead ended at PostScript, thanks to a small but crucial GPS error.

The moment they entered the slender, minimalist café instead of the colorful, filled Wonderland that they expected, they knew there was something.

“I ordered a lavender latte instead of buying a scented candle, so I think the journey was not a total loss,” Kanik joked with the San Francisco stand.

But for Tang, the mix-up and dozens of others like it is not, not a laugh.

“Our image and reputation are out of our hands because of the same names,” Tang said. “We feel that we are being erased.”

Since PostScript was opened in 2023, Tang's Shop has been bombed with wrong tags on Instagram with everything from visitors who are enthusiastic about a Matcha Latte to customers who a 'delicious' smoothie prices she certainly does not sell.

But then the real kicker came: when she visited the other postscript, she discovered that in addition to their trendy café rate they also sold goods that she claims to infringe the trademarks of her own store – candles, greeting cards, books and home decor.

Tang has since hired a lawyer and sent several letters and Desists, but nothing has changed.

Now she brings it to the court of public opinion with a petition that demands that postscript changes its name or stops selling products for which she has trademarks.

At PostScript, co-owner Gina Peterson claims that Tang is not an innocent victim in the rope branch of the retail trade.

Her café has its own trademark on food, including chocolate.

Post.Script also sells seasonal chocolates and toffee.

“We hesitate to take action,” Peterson said in an e -mail to De Standaard, “because we want to support small companies where possible.”

But Tang believes that it is not only about confusion about the names of the store, but also about power.

They bought the Jackson Square building for a $ 15 million and recently upgraded their New York excades from an apartment to a $ 27.5 million mansion.

In the meantime, Tang claimed that her Bootstrapped Business is only fighting to prevent their online presence from being swallowed by a larger, shiny version of itself.

“We have received countless telephone assignments and messages about smoothies, complaints about coffee and even a milk delivery,” Tang explained.

“I had to explain to the delivery person that I absolutely don't need a gigantic chest of oat milk.”

The confusion also exists online with Google that only adds to the chaos.

Tang says that the search lists of her store have taken a dive since PostScript was opened, with AI-driven search results that the two companies are now stamping together.

One search showed the café hours of PostScript next to the address of her store.

The store recently posted on Instagram: 'We need your help! Customers are confusing locations, we lose sales and to make it even worse, they sell products that we have trademark. We tried to solve this quietly, but they refuse to stop.

“It is about protecting small, independent companies against overshadowing by well -financed companies,” her campaign said.

Dailymail.com has approached the owners of both branches for further comments.
