The message was captioned: “I asked a woman to use headphones today.”
He explained, “Currently at the SLC Sky Club. A woman was on the phone with what sounded like a young child. This is quite a large club, yet we could all hear the kid, and I was sitting about ten yards away.
‘Because I kept reading comments where people told me to approach the person, I did so. I walked over to her and said, “Excuse me, would you mind using headphones? That’s louder than you realize and we can all hear you.”
‘She seemed shocked and then told me she thought it was incredibly rude of me to say that. I just shrugged and walked away.
“But she turned down the volume or used headphones because we can’t hear it anymore!” Good luck, I guess? Was I rude?’
People on the internet flocked to the comments section, praising the man for putting his foot down.
Other people reprimanded the woman for speaking loudly on the phone.
One person said: ‘You were spot on. It is not rude to ask someone to follow social norms.”

Someone else wrote: ‘You weren’t rude. Rude people (her) should not dictate to others who or what is rude. She was probably just shocked and embarrassed at the time and took it out on you. Thank you for speaking your mind.”
Another user added, “You weren’t rude. People have forgotten how to have manners!’
‘Good for you!! I wish I had the guts to do that more often. Most of the time I just grumble and shoot dirty looks – so kudos to you for being more direct,” a fourth person commented.
