AAP MLA Naresh Balyan arrested
Balyan was arrested by Delhi Police in connection with an extortion case. Delhi Police demanded a two-day police custody for Balyan, citing evidence, a money trail and extortion allegations. Meanwhile, a bail application was filed on behalf of Balyan. The police opposed the bail plea claiming that incriminating evidence existed. However, counsel responded that there is no money trail to support the claims.
Balyan’s lawyer NC Sharma asserted his innocence and told reporters, “He has no connection with it… We have filed the bail application and a hearing on this will take place tomorrow. We hope that justice prevails.”
DCP Crime Branch, Sanjay Kumar Sain also addressed the remand of the AAP MLA and stated, “Naresh Balyan was questioned about his connection with some gangsters based abroad. Due to sensitive information emerged during the investigation, the court was asked to grant further permission to police remand. The court extended his remand by one day.’
Balyan was arrested in connection with the then extortion case involving gangster Kapil Sangwanknown as Nandu. Balyan is accused of collaborating with Sangwan, who has been linked to several extortion and shooting incidents in Delhi. His arrest followed the publication of an audio clip suggesting communication between the two.
Balyan, who denies the allegations, claims the arrest was politically motivated by the BJP. Meanwhile, AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal argued that Balyan himself was a victim as he was targeted after filing complaints against gangsters, including Sangwan, and alleged that his arrest was a message discouraging people from reporting criminal activities.
