The smelly item in your house that you can fix with ‘the best $1 you’ll ever spend’

A COUPLE of cleaning-mad mums have revealed their simple hack to eliminate odors from smelly vacuum cleaners – and it costs just £1.

Hazel Mckinnie and Claire Jenkins – better known as the Little Scotty cleaners – regularly shares tips to make your home sparkle on social media, where they have 98,000 followers.

The duo has their own cleaning company and laundry, so they certainly know a thing or two about cleaning tricks and handy shopping.

In a recent post, the cleaning experts responded to a follower who asked if they could use dryer sheets to help with their “smelly” vacuum cleaner filter.

“That’s probably possible, but it’s an expensive way,” the duo said.

Instead, the cleaning pros recommend using baking soda, which can be picked up from Tesco for just 65p.

Claire said: “It costs about £1. Take out your filter and put a little bit of it on [bicarbonate of soda] in it – this stinks too, it smells like dog – and that eliminates all your odors.

‘It’s fantastic. There are a hundred and one applications in the home.’

Hazel added: “That’s the best £1 you’ll ever spend on your house bargains or anywhere else.

“Laundry stains, vacuum cleaner, odors, everything. We use it daily. Absolutely fantastic.”

Hazel and Claire’s nifty clip has been viewed more than 43,000 times so far.

One person said: “I’ve been using this for a few years, great for money laundering too and it’s cheap, in any supermarket.”

A second wrote: “I couldn’t live without baking soda. I use it for everything. I also put Lenor’s scent balls in my filter, the house smells like a flower garden when I vacuum.”

A third echoed: “I put scent boosters in the vacuum cleaner bag.”

Meanwhile, a fourth said: “I put the washing boot scents in my vacuum cleaner bag when I change it and it smells wonderful on my fabric.

“I do put bi-carb on my filter and that works and the smell goes away.”

Hazel and Claire run their own launderette and shop in Moffat, Dumfriesshire, called The Laundry Room.

The duo is also a viral sensation on TikTok (@theweescottycleaners) thanks to their cleaning hacks – with their videos racking up millions of views.
