A newborn baby died after an American tourist threw the child out of a hotel window, just after birth, the local police report.
The 18-year-old mother is said to have thrown her baby from the second floor of a hotel in Ibis style 'with the umbilical cord', the authorities said.
Emergency services brought the baby to the Robert-Debre hospital after witnesses had reported the harrowing scenes this morning this morning.
The office of the public prosecutor to Paris told Le Parisien that the child did not survive the fall and succumbed to injuries.
An investigation has been opened for 'Murder of a minor under the age of 15', the Public Prosecutor told the Stad on the Outlet.
The office said that the mother “was part of a group of young adults traveling in Europe.”
They said she was also taken to the hospital for an operation. She was taken into custody on the spot, the office said.

The tragedy would have taken place at the hotel on Rue des Réglises, in the 20th district of the city.
The baby was taken to a hospital in the 19th district.
Allegedly witnesses were 'warned by shouting' before they called the emergency services, Paris Match reported this morning.
The baby is said to have been taken in the hospital 'in absolute emergency and with a life -threatening prognosis' before he was declared dead.
“The investigation is underway and the precise circumstances of this tragedy still have to be determined,” a person told the Outlet near the case.
