Houses were evacuated after a van with fireworks was deliberately set on fire in the early hours of the morning.
The fire caused the fireworks that exploded and missiles shot in the night sky above Braes Avenue in Clydebank around 1 o'clock on Sunday.
The police said that a number of nearby buildings were being evacuated and that roads were closed as a precaution while the fire was extinguished.
There were no reports of injuries.
Yvonne O'Neill, secretary of the Clydebank East Community Council, condemned the incident as 'disgusting behavior'.
Writing on social media, she said: 'Absolutely no respect for the children who live in these houses.
“I've never seen anything like that, children are absolutely shouting terribly in pure fear. Fortunately everyone is safe. '
The police handle the fire as 'deliberately' and appeal to information about the incident in the city of West Dunbartonshire.

They want to trace a man who was seen in the direction of the canal path around the time, which is described in its thirty as white, of slim build and with a shaved head.
He was wearing a dark colored hood jacket and dark pants.
Images that are placed on social media shows the van on fire and loud pony can be heard when fireworks shoot out in all directions.
Detective agent Andrew Baldacci, from Clydebank CID, said: 'I am an appeal to anyone who has information about this man or the man himself to come forward.
'I would also ask everyone who has seen what happened or has information about the incident and has not yet spoken to the police to contact us.
'Likewise, if you have private -CCTV, doorbell or dashcam images from the area, then view this and bring something important in our attention.'
