An older British climber died tragically after he successfully climbed to the top of the Kinabalu mountain in Malaysia.
The 70-year-old man, who has not yet been identified, has reportedly collapsed while descending the 13,500ft-top before he died on Tuesday morning
He was discovered that KM8.2 no longer responded, beyond the Sayat-Sayat control point, just a few meters from the top, and emergency services were called at 7:17 am local time.
While the emergency services called to the top of the mountain gave him first aid, he did not respond.
According to Ranau Fire and Rescue Station Chief Asst Fire Spt Ridwan Mohd Taib, it took almost three hours to come where the man collapsed.
“The team arrived at the location at 10.15 am and provided first aid to the victim before he wore him to Panalaban Hut,” said Ridwan.
The climber was then taken to the Timpohon gate, where he was declared dead at 5:08 pm.
“The body was later transferred to the police for further action,” Ridwan added.
