Tibetan leader calls for independent Tibet as key to Sino-Indian border resolution

Gyari, who is also Minister of Security (Minister of Defence) of the central Tibetan governmentsays that for permanent peace with China the only option is to recognize a united Tibet as an independent state.
“In the 1914 Shimla Accordit was Tibet that had signed the pact with India, recognizing Arunachal as part of India. For a permanent resolution of the border dispute, China must recognize Tibet as an independent state,” she said.
The Tibetan acting president’s comments came during an exclusive interaction with a media delegation, where she emphasized that the Tibet issue was at the center of all dialogues between India and China over the disputed borders.
On Tuesday she also hosted a delegation of MPs from New Zealand and Fiji in celebration of the
35th anniversary of the award of the Nobel Peace Prize to HH Dalai Lama. Former Union Minister Suresh Prabhu was a special guest on the occasion where the foreign delegation expressed solidarity with the Tibetan cause and also criticized China’s human rights violations in the occupied territory.
“The Central Tibetan Administration believes that Arunachal Pradesh and all other areas disputed by China are inseparable and integral parts of India,” Gyari said.
The minister expressed confidence in the resolution of the Tibet issue under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi and noted that “India is moving in the right direction. The current Southern Bloc (MEA) understands it better than what they did ten years ago.”
Dharamshala is also preparing to celebrate next year’s 90th birthday of the Dalai Lama as the ‘Global Year of Compassion’.
