Microsoft introduces Native Copilot app with Quick View features

Microsoft is introducing a native Copilot app for Windows, the company announced on Tuesday. It has been introduced for testers registered with the Windows Insider program and replaces the progressive web app (PWA) that was available until now. The native Copilot for Windows app is being offered as an update, after which it will appear in the system tray, according to Microsoft. Notably, the company recently introduced several features for Copilot, such as Copilot Vision and AI-powered Recall – both available in preview.

Native Copilot app rolling out

In a blog afterMicrosoft has detailed the features of the new native Copilot app. It offers a new quick view functionality, allowing users to access the artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot via keyboard shortcuts on Windows 11 and 11 PCs. They can open or close the quick view by pressing Alt + spacewhile it can also be moved or resized. The company says users can return to the main window of the Copilot app by pressing the icon that appears in the top left corner of the quick view window.

This shortcut uses the RegisterHotKey feature, according to Microsoft. It is noted that many apps, including Copilot, use this keyboard shortcut. So the app that is first launched on the PC or running in the background will be called whenever you use the app Alt + space hotkey.

Alternatively, users with PCs with a special Copilot key can use this to quickly bring up the AI chatbot on the screen. According to the company, it will explore further options regarding the app’s keyboard shortcuts in the future.

Microsoft also says that its own Copilot app is being rolled out to Insider channels via the Microsoft Store. It brings the app version to 1.24112.123.0 and above. However, its rollout is gradual, so not all Windows Insiders will see it immediately. It may take a few days for visibility to increase.
