You can stream the Oscars live for the first time on Hulu
- March’s Academy Awards will be streamed live for the first time
- Hulu has the livestream and a catch-up the next day
- The Golden Globes will also be streamed in January
The Academy Awards, or Oscars, will be streamed live for the first time next year. The lucky streamer is Hulu, which will stream the awards show while ABC will provide the usual live TV broadcasts.
The news comes via the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences, which has also confirmed the host’s date and time: The 97th Academy Awards will kick off at 4:00 PM PT on Sunday, March 2, 2025 with Conan O’Brien as host. The red carpet starts a little earlier at 3:30 PM PT.
In addition to the livestream, which will be available to all subscribers of the top TV streaming service, Hulu’s stream will also be available to rewatch the next day.
Can’t beat the streaming
This may be the first Oscars to be streamed live, but it won’t be the first glossy Hollywood event to do so, or even the first in 2025: the Golden Globes will also be streamed live, this time by Paramount Plus.
The Golden Globes are widely seen as Oscar prognosticators, and the 2025 ceremony will take place on Sunday, January 5 at 5pm PT/8pm ET. It will also air more traditionally, on CBS, and the host will be Nikki Glaser.
So who are likely to be this year’s winners? The smart money is afoot Emilia Perez, which earned ten Golden Globe nominations – a record for a musical comedy. And The fabric has been nominated for several awards: best director, best musical/comedy film, best actress, best supporting actress and best screenplay.
We don’t know yet who will be shortlisted for the Academy Awards, but we don’t have to wait long: those lists will be announced next Tuesday, December 17.
