Israel takes on Anthony Albanese’s government, accusing it of inciting anti-Semitic attacks
Israel has criticized the Australian Labor government’s “extreme anti-Israel position” and claimed it is inciting attacks on Jews, along with Hamas and Iran.
Israeli government spokesman David Mencer made the comments Friday in response to news of Australia’s vote in favor of a United Nations resolution supporting a ceasefire in Gaza a day earlier.
The 193-member United Nations General Assembly voted overwhelmingly in favor of an immediate humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza, with 153 members expressing support, 10 against – including the United States – and 23 abstaining.
In the aftermath of the vote, Mencer blamed the Anthony Albanian government for anti-Semitic attacks in Australia, such as the one on the Adass Israel Synagogue last week.
“Israel truly believes that it is impossible to separate the reprehensible act of burning down a synagogue for God’s sake from the extreme anti-Israel position of your Labor government in Australia,” he said. Sky News Australia.
‘Anti-Israel sentiment coming from the Labor government is leading to anti-Semitism. Anti-Israel rhetoric leads to attacks on Jews.
‘It’s incitement, it’s actually what Hamas and Iran are also involved in. Incitement against the Jewish state leads to physical attacks on Jews.”
Mr Mencer said although Albanians had recently condemned anti-Semitic attacks in Melbourne and Sydney, the Israeli government had not changed its view of Australia.

“The proof is in the pudding and yesterday’s votes at the United Nations, which break the bipartisan consensus in Australia, are about incitement.
“We here in Israel are fighting a fight against barbarism, and Australia should be an ally in that fight.
‘We are winning here. Iran has been exposed, their air defenses destroyed, their proxies pushed back.
‘Hezbollah has been set decades back in time. Assad in Syria was responsible for 500,000 deaths.
“We are winning here in Israel and we want Australia to celebrate that success because our success is your success in Australia.”
On Thursday, Mr Albanese said in a joint statement with his counterparts from New Zealand and Canada that Australia supports the establishment of a lasting ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, but that Hamas must give up its weapons.
“We are alarmed by the shrinking safe space for civilians in Gaza,” the released statement said.
“The price for defeating Hamas cannot be the continued suffering of all Palestinian citizens.”

Since then there have been two more attacks, one with the firebombing of the Adass Israel Synagogue in Melbourne on December 6 when Jews gathered to pray, which injured one person, and another graffiti and car burning attack in Woollahra on December 11.
The arson of the Adass Israel Synagogue has been declared an act of terror as police continue to hunt for three suspects.
