Actor Allu Arjun arrested over Pushpa 2 stampede incident: What we know so far
NEW DELHI: Telugu actor Allu Arjun was arrested on Friday in connection with a stampede that took place during the premiere of his film Pushpa 2: The Rule at Sandhya Theatre, Hyderabad. The December 4 incident led to the death of Revathi, a 35-year-old woman, and injuries to her son. Since then, allegations of poor crowd management and negligence have come to light, with the actor and others facing legal action.

Legal response from the actor

Allu Arjun has filed a petition in the Telangana High Court to quash the FIR and requested a stay of all legal proceedings.

Statement from the police

Authorities criticized the theater management for not making additional arrangements for crowd control. “The theater management did not make any additional arrangements regarding security…although the theater management did have information about their arrival,” police said.

Charges against Allu Arjun


Police have registered a case under sections 105 (Manslaughter not amounting to murder), 118(1) (Voluntarily causing hurt) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Chikkadpally police station based on the complaint filed by the family of the deceased woman.
Besides Allu Arjun, his security team and the theater management are also mentioned. The case was registered at Chikkadpally police station on December 5 following a complaint from the woman’s husband.

A huge crowd had gathered to watch the film and catch a glimpse of actor Allu Arjun, who was expected to visit.
Despite being aware of the actor’s arrival, theater management failed to notify authorities or take necessary security measures, including a separate entrance or exit for the actor and his team. Around 9:30 PM, Allu Arjun arrived at the venue with his personal security team. The crowd flocked to him and tried to enter the theater. According to the DCP, “His personal security team started putting pressure on the public, which further aggravated the situation as there was already a huge gathering in the theater.”
The commotion led to overcrowding on the lower balcony area. Among the victims were 35-year-old Revathi and her 13-year-old son Sri Tej, who suffocated due to the influx of people. Police personnel on duty rescued them and resuscitated the boy.
They were immediately rushed to Durgabai Deshmukh Hospital, where doctors declared Revathi brought dead. Her son was transferred to another hospital for advanced treatment.
