This social media app does not allow you to post photos or follow others

Mozi, an alternative social media platform, recently launched on iOS. The platform’s founder claims that it is not really a media platform as users cannot post photos or videos on it. The most unique feature of the platform is that users can use the app to connect with new people and people they know in a meaningful way. While the app is currently only available on iOS, the founder stated that there is already a waiting list available for Android users and an app may be released soon.

The social app Mozi doesn’t let users upload photos or videos

In one after on Medium, the app’s founder, Ev Williams, emphasized that he was trying to solve the problem of social media platforms not really focusing on connecting people, rather than spreading content with people they don’t know. He wanted to provide an alternative platform that was private and did not support public profiles, follower counts, or strangers.

The result was Mozi, an alternative social app that doesn’t follow any of the basic tenets of traditional social media apps. Nowadays, social media apps are focused on posting content in different formats and spreading the content to those who don’t know them. Mozi does not allow users to post photos or videos and there are no influencers.

“Mozi’s primary value proposition (today) is simple: it lets you know when you’ll be in the same place (city or event) as someone you know. And the goal is simple: connect more often – and personally – with the people you care about,” Williams said on Medium.

The platform also has other use cases. Williams explains that Mozi can be used to help users decide which events to attend. For example, if there are five or six events happening on the same weekend, users can see which event will be attended by more of their friends. This way they can decide for themselves which event they would most like to attend.

Williams emphasized that the app was soft-launched a few months ago in a “relatively small community.” Reception of its features has been largely positive, with feedback from the founder that the app has brought people together.

Currently, Mozi does not allow users to create public profiles, plans, or other information that can be shared publicly. Everything a user posts can only be viewed by mutual contacts (verified using phone numbers). However, users can only mark plans for “close friends.” Users can also delete any contact from which they do not receive anything.
