The best and worst places to ski in Europe for the 2024/25 season have been revealed – and it’s Bardonecchia in Italy that is the cheapest for the second year in a row.
Bardonecchia is rated as the best value for adult skiing in the Post Office Travel Money Ski Resort Report 2025well ahead of its nearest rival, Borovets in Bulgaria.
The most expensive holiday resort, the research shows, is again Zermatt in Switzerland.
The ranking, produced in collaboration with Crystal Ski Holidays, was compiled by comparing the total cost at 36 resorts of a package of essentials: a six-day lift pass and ski/boot hire for one person, plus a ski school (five to six half days) . days), and a range of drinks and lunch on the slopes.
The total for Bardonecchia is £543 per person (up 1.5 per cent), while the total for second-place Borovets is £563.

Bardonecchia is one of six Italian ski resorts in the top ten best value for money for adult skiers.
The others are Livigno (fourth, £637), Sauze (fifth, £664), Sestriere (sixth, £709), La Thuile (seventh, £723) and Cervinia (10th, £739).
Former best value holder, Bansko comes third (£573), up from sixth place last season.
Post Office Travel Money notes that Norway is an ‘unexpected destination to be in the top 10 adult ski resorts’, thanks to ‘competitive prices on ski passes, equipment hire and tuition’.
Norefjell in Norway’s Scandes Mountains is the only newcomer in the top ten adult skis, rising from 14th last year to ninth thanks to a 2.6 per cent drop in costs to £739, the report explains.
Cost-conscious skiers could also consider ski resorts in Andorra and Spain, the research suggests, which shows that Spanish resort Baquiera Beret has retained its place in the top ten for adult skis in eighth place, although prices have risen by 4.9 percent to £738. .
There are no top ten places for French or Austrian ski areas.
Le Corbier is 11th highest in the adult table, but prices at the French resort have risen 9.9 per cent to £744, the biggest increase for adult skiers, according to Post Office Travel Money.
Ellmau (12th, £752) offers the lowest prices of the nine Austrian resorts surveyed.
At the other end of the table, Zermatt is the most expensive thanks to a ski basket total of £1,346, with the Swiss resort of Wengen just behind in 35th place (£1,308).
The report also provided a ranking of the cheapest and most expensive resorts for families, based on the cost for two adults and two children aged six and eight.
The best value family resort for 2024/25 is Passo Tonale in Italy, followed by Kranjska Gora in Slovakia, while Saalbach in Austria is the most expensive.
Laura Plunkett, head of Post Office Travel Money, said: ‘Although the pound is currently stronger against the currency for most European ski resorts compared to last year, our latest comparison of prices at leading destinations shows that the cost of ski passes, school equipment and ski equipment hire still varies by hundreds of pounds.
