I couldn’t afford a velvet sofa so I transformed mine with a £5.25 Matalan purchase
A DIY enthusiast has revealed she couldn’t afford to splash the cash on a chic velvet sofa, so she gave hers a cheap transformation.
With the help of bargains from Matalan, Jan Pearce was able to give her sofa a new lease of life, without spending a lot of money.
Not only did she save thousands by not buying a new sofa, but she also proved her incredible DIY skills.
Delighted by the overhaul of her sofa, which she changed from blue to off-grey velvet, Jan took to social media to get a closer look, leaving many with their mouths open.
Post on DIY on a budgeta closed Facebook group with 2.2 million members, Jan shared get it of her blue couch, alongside images of her now beautiful gray couch, as she wrote: “And it went from this…To this!”
She then joked: “And we only wanted to get divorced about eight times lol.”
Jan and her husband used Matalan throws, which cost just £5.25 each, to transform the main piece of furniture in her living room.
She beamed: “I used 14 throws from Matalan, £7 each, but got 25% off, so even cheaper! So €73.50!
“Turn on the TV and get started!”
Jan explained that she and her partner did everything themselves, by hand, as she acknowledged: “All the cushions [were] sewn by hand because I don’t have a sewing machine.
“And all this without damage to the sofa underneath.
“We used wooden batons to tighten the fabric and secure the existing beams underneath.”
We think Jan’s sofa looks fantastic, and for under £75 it was clearly a fantastic way to add style to her space without spending too much money.
Facebook users were clearly stunned by Jan’s sofa transformation, which quickly racked up almost 4,000 likes in just four days.
