The University of Virginia gave students an urgent warning on campus to 'run', hide 'while they were looking for a person with a knife that attacked people.
Allegedly at least one victim was taken to the hospital and their condition is unknown.
The suspect reportedly wore a red sweatshit and blue training pants and was last seen near the Alumni Hall.
A later update said the middle -aged suspect seems to be.
The first alert was issued at around 4.35 pm and the suspect was held a little more than an hour later, the campus police said.
The hiding place was lifted after the suspect's arrest, but the police remain on the spot.
