Adobe on Monday introduced a series of new artificial intelligence (AI) features for Acrobat, its PDF editing software. The features are powered by the Adobe Firefly Image 3 foundation model, the third iteration of the company’s internal text-to-image generation model. Once integrated, users will not only be able to use AI to enhance images, but also generate them using text-based prompts within the app. In addition to the image generation capabilities, Adobe also rolled out a document insights feature as well as the ability to summarize meetings.
AI Features in Acrobat
In a after On the newsroom, Adobe revealed the integration of Firefly Image 3 into Acrobat. This allows users to Edit image option to use Firefly-powered Generative Fill, Remove Background, Erase and Crop features, which the company claims can “add, remove and revitalize content” in documents.
Additionally, Image 3 also lets users generate images from text-based prompts in documents. Images can be added to any part of the document and can be resized and styled. Notably, Adobe rolled out similar features to its image editing software Photoshop in April.
According to the company, Adobe Firefly is trained on licensed content, including moderated Adobe Stock content and public domain images whose copyright has expired. To distinguish between real images and AI-generated images, Adobe says it follows the Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity (C2PA) open standard, which requires creators to add an AI label and include details about the creation process in the image’s metadata.
The AI Assistant, which uses generative AI to provide answers to document-related questions, is also getting additional capabilities. Starting today (June 18), it can provide insights into the document, such as identifying trends, answering questions, and synthesizing and formatting information from different sources. In addition to responding, Adobe says the AI Assistant can also provide quotes, making it easy for the user to quickly navigate to the relevant point without having to dig through the entire document.
Adobe also introduced enhanced meeting transcription capabilities for its AI Assistant. By leveraging AI, it can now automatically create generative summaries for virtual meetings. This helps users stay on top of discussion topics and important actions, according to the company.
