ABC was beaten because of his overwhelming coverage of Mardi Gras, while controversial Senator Lidia Thorpe made her triumphant return after a disastrous last year.
Tens of thousands of people held Oxford Street and cranned neck of roofs and balconies to catch a glimpse of 181 floats participating in the 47th Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Parade.
One of the first of the floats was one of Lapa legends whose debut was blessed this year by Mrs. Thorpe herself who ran next to it.
The senator was dressed in a superhero costume Wearing a sign with the lecture 'Not My King' and she announced her presence in a short Facebook video for the event Where she made light from the controversy that she caused in the parade in 2024.
“Take two, and yes, guess where I am,” the senator said in the short clip.
'Mardi grass! And I am at the La Perouse Mob and we have driven our elderly as the queens they are. '
Lapa represents Legends LGBTQ communities with ties with the Aboriginal population of La Perouse in the eastern suburbs of Sydney.
Despite the festivities on the ground, those who could not have brought the event through the ABC because of its matte coverage.

Instead of showing the actual parade in the background, the public broadcaster Bizar spent the evening focusing on a panel of commentators who discussed what the public could not see.
“Please ABC just shows the parade that I beg you,” wrote a woman on social media.
'Yo why is [the ABC’s] Mardi Gras -covering actually missed the Parade, “wrote another.
“No problems with the comment, but just show the parade,” a third added.
“We don't need a photo in the photo of the hosts and you missed the first three floats – some of the most important floats.”
'12 minutes inside. Worst Mardi Gras cover ever, “announced a fourth.
Although the parade was still on the commentators and in a small box at the bottom right of the screen, many viewers thought it was a shame.
“Do better for the ABC community,” a person said.
