A woman was arrested on suspicion of arson after a four -year -old girl died in a house fire in Manchester.
Today around 12.35 pm the emergency services responded to a fire on a house on Gateeshead Close.
Crews were quickly able to extinguish the fire and bring out a four -year -old girl, who had been seriously injured.
Unfortunately, despite the best efforts of all those involved, the girl died a short time later from her injuries in the hospital.
A woman, 44, was arrested on suspicion of arson with the intention of jeopardizing life. She is known to the child and there is no broader threat to the community.
A scene remains in place around Gateshead Close, while specialized officers continue to investigate the full circumstances.
Detective head inspector Charlotte Whalley, of our great incident team, said: “This terrible incident has seen the tragic death of a young girl and I would like to send my condolences to her friends and family. Numerous emergency services attended the scene and everything did the best to save her.
'A woman has been arrested and I can confirm that she is known to the child. There is no broader threat to the community and no one else is being sought in connection with the investigation.
'These tragic incidents will of course of course cause worries, but I want to reassure the public that we fully investigate all circumstances of the fire and do not leave any stone untouched while we do this work.
