Apple to Topple Samsung in Q4 Smartphone Global Market Share: Trendforce

The global smartphone market is reportedly on a downward trend after an initial pandemic-induced surge in smartphone spending has slowed down over the past year, further compounding an economic slowdown and record inflation. Meanwhile, another report has suggested that continued inventory pressure, low demand and a semiconductor shortage will further dent Samsung’s device shipments. These factors have reportedly enabled Apple to overtake Samsung as the brand with the highest global smartphone market share in Q4 2022.

According to a report by the Global Smartphones Market Report, the global market share increased by a total of 289 million units in the third quarter of 2022. report by TrendForce. Compared to year-on-year data, this represents a decline of 11 percent. Meanwhile, there was also a decline of 0.9 percent compared to the global smartphone market share in Q2 2022.

According to the aforementioned report, Samsung is set to cede its top position in the global smartphone market to Apple, with the iPhone maker rising to 24.6 percent market share from its previous 17.6 percent. On the other hand, the Galaxy smartphone maker is set to drop to 20.2 percent from its previous market share of 22.2 percent.

Samsung managed to produce just 64.2 million units through device production in the third quarter of 2022. The decline is expected to continue in the fourth quarter of 2022, which could help rival Apple overtake the South Korean conglomerate in the overall rankings.

Meanwhile another report BusinessKorea also claims that the picture for Samsung may not improve in the fourth quarter as the company tries to combat ongoing inventory pressure, low demand and semiconductor shortages.

The Cupertino, California-based iPhone maker added 50.8 million units in the third quarter. While the number is smaller than Samsung, Apple is generally known for experiencing the best demand in the last quarter of the year. Moreover, a redistribution of demand from Huawei and optimal pricing of newer smartphone models seems to have helped Apple in the third quarter of 2022.

Xiaomi, OPPO and Vivo ranked third, fourth and fifth respectively in the global smartphone market for Q3 2022.

In the meantime, according to According to statistics website GlobalStatsCounter, Xiaomi still retains its position as the leader in the Indian smartphone market in November 2022 with a market share of 25.27 percent, followed by Vivo and Samsung with 16.5 percent and 16.05 percent respectively.
