The famous hairdresser, 69, met Diana for the first time in 1990 when he and make -up artist Mary Greenwell were hired by Vogue for a photo shoot with a secret celebrity.
He remembered the moment he met the deceased Royal, who was killed in 1997 in a car accident in Paris and said: “Princess Diana comes bouncing the stairwell. She put her hand out with a big smile and said, “Hello, I’m Diana” – Both melted us. “
In a new interview with De TelegraafSam remembered Diana as ‘so funny’ – with a rather ‘filthy’ sense of humor.
“I loved her,” he said. “She was so funny. She sent [me] These really dirty birthday cards from this card store on Kensington High Street. ‘
The ‘void’ left by Diana when she tragically lost her life to only 36, was never filled, Sam said.
‘There has never really been a replacement [for her]”He told the publicationBefore he corrects himself.

Sam cut Diana’s her shortly after the Vogue photo shoot, which led to her iconic look that caused thousands of copycat styles
“That’s the wrong word. Nobody has ever fitted that she made, there has been a void there. ‘
Sam also revealed his feelings about the current state of the royal familyespecially Meghan Markle And Kate Middleton.
He regretted how ‘sad’ it was that Meghan left the royal family next to it Prince Harry In 2020, when they resigned as senior royals and moved to the US.
In the interview with the newspaper he said: ‘I think Meghan could have done great, really. And I thought that was sad, you know? ‘
However, he praised the princess of Wales, who is married to Prince William and shares three children with him.
“I think Kate is doing great,” he said.
Sam cut Diana’s hair shortly before the Vogue Cover Shoot, shot by Patrick DemarchelierAnd the resulting black and white photo is now one of the most iconic photos of Diana ever taken.
It showed the princess on the floor of the studio and shone up at the camera, dressed in a strapless satin dress with a series of pearls around her neck and a tiara in her hair.

The stylist also expressed his thoughts about the princess of Wales and said that she is doing ‘a great work’, and said it was ‘sad’ that Meghan Markle decided to break from the royal family (Kate and Meghan in the Royal Box on Center Court in Wimbledon in 2019, a year after their bridesmaid dress Row)
Sam went to work with Diana for the next seven years and even traveled with her on her royal tours.
He went with her to India in 1992, where the now famous photo of the princess was taken outside the Taj Mahal.
He spoke about her love for pressing her hair, and added that the princess would have a ‘secretly permanent’ between the time he traveled back and forth from London to New York for his work.
To Make her short haircut in the Vogue photo shootThe stylist previously revealed that he had to ‘falsify’ it a bit before he cut Diana’s her.
In 2021 he participated in the Free Masterclasses series, Vogue Visionaries by British Vogue and YouTube UK, and remembered the moment that led to the iconic hairstyle of Diana.
‘This was 1990, I made [Diana’s hair] Look briefly under the Tiara – I faded a bit … At the end of the day she said: “What would you do with my hair if I said:” Just do something “”? “
“And I said:” I would cut it all and just start again. “

Earlier this year, the stylist offered a candid assessment of the thinner hair of Prince Harry and said it was time for a hair transplant, or to cut it briefly like his brother’s. (Left shown: The Young Prince attends a charity event on a Polo Ground in Tidworth, Wiltshire. The Duke of Sussex photographed during the Wellchild Awards in London in 2024)
‘It was the early 90s and it was the time that I did a lot of shows and covers and many of the girls had short hair and we moved from the great Frou-Frou 80s to the sharp, more androgynous, business chic of the 90s.
“So she said:” Well, why don’t you just cut it now? “So I cut it off and we never looked back.”
Sam used to be Prince William and Prince Harry’s go-to Hairdresser when they were young boys.
Earlier this year, however, he had rather hard truths for Harry after seeing photos of the Duke of Sussex on the Invictus Games in Vancouver and Whistler in Canada in February.
Fans pointed to the 40-year-old Harry’s thinner hair at the back during the event, which did not go unnoticed by Sam.
The A-list Haarstylist Shared photos of Harry and advised him to either have a ‘good short clip’ or to ‘find out’ with a hair transplantation.
“It’s time Harry!” He wrote. ‘Many moons ago, when you and your brother were young boys, you both had the most beautiful, thick healthy crowning glory, just like Mama.
‘Many afternoon was spent with diluting and shaping the Topiary! Just like me, however, the lush hedging is no longer, just a slip or two of his former self. ‘
Sam said his advice for Harry to cut his hair shorter – like William – look sharp and clean and take years of that handsome face. “
‘If I was of your age, I would go for a transplant, so much more natural nowadays, unlike the plug plants of yesteryear.
‘And not a fast EasyJet trip to Turkey, you are in California where they have the best!
‘So Harry, from one Baldy to the other, it’s time. As they say in Disneyland, ‘Let it go’. Sent from your old hairdresser, Sam, with love, a wink and a smile. ‘
