A spokeswoman for the British government said: “We remain absolutely committed to securing a permanent peace in Ukraine and are working on important allies to support this effort. It is the right thing to do and is in our interest in doing this.
'We have strengthened Ukrainian military capacities by our commitment to offer Ukraine of £ 3 billion a year in military aid as long as it takes and through a loan of £ 2.26 billion with the help of sanctioned Russian assets.
“Moreover, we have set up a partnership with Ukraine with which they can use £ 1.6 billion in British export financing to buy 5,000 air defense missiles made in Belfast, which brings Ukraine in the strongest possible position for peace.”
Sir Keir told the commons only a few hours before Mr Trump's intervention that he 'understood' that the American position was not to withdraw help.

A second officer told Fox News that 'this is not a permanent termination of assistance, it is a break'. All military equipment that is currently not in Ukraine will be stopped and all future help is now in danger.
The shift of Trump followed an abrupt post -warning that 'America will not tolerate much longer' yesterday after the Lord Zensky suggested that the end of the war is still 'very, very far away'.

Mr Zelensky spoke after the London top 18 brought allies to offer the Ukrainian security guarantees and to restore their support. Sir Keir said that the powers would work together to draw up a viable peace plan that could be presented to Mr Trump.
“This is the worst explanation that Zensky could have made, and America will not tolerate it much longer,” a furious Mr Trump who posted on his social website of De Waarheid.
Mr. Trump also asked the dedication of the Lord Zensky to peace and said that he “does not want to be peace as long as he has the support of America.”
He also hinted that the Lord Zensky may not be the Ukrainian president much longer – an important question from Putin.
Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch said that the UK and Europe should be “driven faster after the American announcement.
She said: 'The news at night that America stops military help to Ukraine is deeply disturbing.
'It is clear that Great -Britain and Europe have to reassigned much faster if we want to offer Ukraine more than just warm words of support.
“We have to work to keep America inside, and Russia outside.”
